This site was created by a former Classicist, who always felt ancient history needed more dick jokes.
The purpose of this site is to provide fun, funny, and insightful Classics related information to the wider world outside the Ivory Tower.
The title “Kai ta . . et cetera” is a sort of portmanteau of “Kai ta loipa” (και τα λοιπα), which is the Greek for “and the others/rest”, and et cetera, which is of course the Latin for “and the others/rest”. In other words, I got bored and this was the best I could come up with for a blog title.
Navigating this site:
The “Iotas” section contains short articles. The name comes from “an iota of difference”, which was an old Christian theological fight between homoousios and homoiousios, literally an iota of difference between orthodox and heresy. They will be on minor translation differences, or small points of importance for learning about Classics and ancient history. Feel free to use these bits-o-gnosis at cocktail parties. People still go to those, right?
The “Articles” section contains longer articles. They will cover Classics and history in society, things going on in the Ivory Tower, or other ramblings.
